Bringing prosperity through patchwork
Gramshree’s Rudra Center is a space that encourages and enables women of Ahmedabad’s slum communities to be catalysts of sustainable economic and social change, in order to strengthen their families and positively impact their communities.
One of the goals Gramshree has for Rudra Center is to create an atmosphere where these women come together as a community to develop their surroundings and their spheres of health, education and hygiene.

Symbol of Gratitude
Heart Pins, a symbol of gratitude
Rudra Center was the first one to adopt the initiative of Heart Pins, with 28 women currently honing their skills with love.
Gratefulness is a value that is deeply instilled in our system, and our Heart Pins honour it. Our women artisans transform discarded patches of cloth into gorgeous and meaningful creations.
The pins offer women dignity at work: an opportunity to employ their skills and engage their minds in a nurturing environment. They are offered to people to thank them for their deeds and to honour each other, awakening the feeling of ‘Maitri’, or friendship.

Our Journey
Our roots in Ahmedabad
These milestones from our journey trace how Gramshree’s work grew in Ahmedabad, from 1996 up to Rudra Center.
- 1996
Where it began
Gramshree started working in Gandhi Ashram and the slum area near Ramapir no Tekro in Ahmedabad.
- 1997-98
Quilts and cushion covers
Gramshree started producing quilts, bedspreads and cushion covers with women.
- 2006-07
More centres in the city
Gramshree started other centres in Odhav, Chandlodiya, Rabari Colony and more.
- 2011-12
Sabarmati and Rudra Center
Gramshree created a production centre and design studio at Sabarmati and Rudra Center in Ahmedabad.
