Our Initiatives

Six initiatives at the heart of the problem

Medical Camps

Many women are unaware that their health is as valuable as their families’. Women visiting hospitals for check-ups voluntarily was a far-fetched dream. This neglect leads to prolonged illness and can make a treatable disease more acute.

To avoid such afflictions, Gramshree conducts medical camps at their doorsteps with the help of partner medical facilities and volunteers. Our persistent efforts have infused a notion of self-awareness and emotional intelligence amongst the women artisans.

Khakhra Program

One of the core purposes of Gramshree is to make underprivileged women self-reliant by facilitating them with the tools and information they need to flourish.

The Khakhra Training Program is a 30-day skill upliftment initiative organised by Gramshree with the support of the Share & Care Foundation in rural stretches and urban slums of Gujarat.

Saree Library

India is renowned as a land of diverse cultures, ethnicities and beliefs coexisting in harmony and love. There is an assorted range of clothing people wear across the national landscape.

Being one of the essential pieces of ethnic clothing, the saree has been proudly worn by women across India in several fashions. Thus, the inception of the Saree Library.

Food Security Program

The Food Security Program is an ongoing scheme commenced to provide food and financial aid to Gramshree’s women.

During the initial months of the year, our team distributes sacks of grain and bottles of oil to the artisan women, enough to feed the entire family for a year. Every month, women pay easy instalments for the food from the income they earn at Gramshree.

Symbol of Gratitude

Gratefulness is a value that is deeply instilled in our system. Honouring this value are our ‘Heart Pins’. In a quiet corner of Ahmedabad at Ramapir no Tekro, our women artisans are transforming discarded patches of cloth into gorgeous and meaningful creations.

These pins are empowering marginalised women by offering them dignity at work, as women residing in slums and lower-income areas often work in exploitative and harmful environments.

Child Ed-support

Gramshree partners with families willing to contribute to the upliftment of the future of our country: our children. These families adopt a child of Gramshree’s women and commit to supporting their education.

Education is the key to transforming the lives of children and can take them out of work and into the classroom. We also focus on girls’ education, a long-neglected facet of our society. An educated girl is more likely to grow up empowered to determine the course of her life.

From the Khakhra Program

Tejal Rawal: a story of passion, grit and determination

The Khakhra Training Program was commenced to uplift the lives of marginalised women by imparting income-generating skills, and it has been a transformational wave that has empowered many lives.

One such instance happened in Kada village. Tejalben, an ITI graduate with ambitions to reach greater heights, was trained in the art of khakhra making. Word of her delicious khakhra soon spread, and in a month she earned her first remuneration of ₹5,500 by working three hours a day. Hence, an entrepreneur was born.

Today, her diligence, hard work and passion for doing more are transforming many lives in her community.
